from "The Wee Free Men: A story of Discworld" by Terry Prachett (it made me think of Deliria)
...and then, like someone rising from the clouds of a sleep, she felt the deep, deep Time below her. She sensed the breath of the downs and the distant roar of ancient, ancient seas trapped in millions of tiny shells. She thought of Granny Aching, under the turf, becoming part of the chalk again, part of the land under wave. She felt as if huge wheels, of time and stars, were turning slowly around her.

She opened her eyes and then, somewhere inside, opened her eyes again.

She heard the grass growing, and the sound of worms below the turf. She could feel the thousands of little lives around her, smell all the scents on the breeze, and see all the shades of the night.

The wheel of stars and years, of space and time, locked into place. She knew exactly where she was, who she was and what she was.

She swung a hand. The Queen {{of the Fairies}} tried to stop her, but she might as well have tried to stop a wheel of years. Tiffany's hand caught her face and knocked her off her feet.

"Now I know why I never cried for Granny," she said "She has never left me."

She leaned down, and centuries bent with her.

"The secret is not to dream," she whispered. "The secret is to wake up. Waking up is harder. I have woken up and I am real. I know where I come from and I know where I am going. You cannot fool me anymore. Or touch me. Or anything that is mine."

Help!
So pisceskitty and I have finally gone mad.

We were batting around ideas for a Deleria LARP at Aggiecon, where our dear satyrblade is one of the guests of honor this weekend.

And we have an interesting, yet mad premise we just started talking about.

How would the Folk respond if they came across a LARP? Or perhaps a Renfaire with high fantasy elements?

We need observations, criticisms and suggestions for what there might be.

Yes, I know this is a mad mad post to spring on this group after so much inactivity, but we're just that crazy!

ENnies 2006

So here's the deal...Everyday Heroes: Adventures for the Rest of Us is up for an EnNie for Best Supplement of 2006.  You can vote over at EN World if you'd like to, and support Deliria and LPP both.

Which'd be swell.

See you there!

Attention All Attendees of the Origins 2006 "Play with Pan" Event!
This year at Origins, Laughing Pan productions was proud to once again hold the annual “Play with Pan!” event Saturday evening.  This year we had record-breaking attendance and what had started as a table-top scenario quickly became what might be the Larpletop event of the year.  Everyone who played contributed to a story that had several of us literally weeping at its conclusion—myself included, and I ran the darned thing.  Laughing Pan, and myself in particular, would like to hear from all of you who attended this event.  Please send your contact information to shavens@laughingpan.com.   Something is coming…

Dunton Saga
Looking for 2 more folks for a weekly online game.

To join
Mail Sabastian_Hobbs@yahoo.com with [Dunton Deliria] in the Subject line. State how many weekly games out of every 5 scheduled you will commit to. I will commit to 4 out of every 5. Meaning out of every 5 weeks, I will be at 4 sessions.

System
Deliria. Most uncertain events will be determined by the Guide. The Compact System will be used lightly. All card draws made by Guide and announced to the players. Game will be Narrative style.

Location and Frequency
Weekly chat room meeting. Day of week and time TBD.

Players
4 spots for people who can make a firm commitment (4 weekly meetings out of every 5). There will be positions for occasional players, but they will play established supporting characters or antagonists. I currently have 2 interested parties.

Setting
I'm interested in a gritty North-American urban setting (city of Dunton) with occasional elements of the Mysterium. I don't want constant interaction with obvious wee people or long term trips to Faerieland. Constant weirdness such as in Neverwhere would be a bit much. Labyrinth, Angel and Buffy settings are no-nos. I would like to build this setting with the other players, especially common NPCs/shared PCs. If a character (even a minor, nameless NPC) dies, I want it to be an important event.

I'm interested in a 'television series' style story. Each Chapter/Act/Story is complete in itself, but usually provides insight into one or more characters and forwards the 'overplot.'

Guiding
Rotating Guiding. I would like the position of Guide to change after each Chapter/Act/Story. The character of the player now Guiding would be conveniently indisposed for the duration of the player's tenure as Guide.

Characters
Each main player will have a preferred character. Supporting characters will be available for play, especially for flashbacks or character-centered sessions. Build points TBD - I'm thinking on the low side.

Character Advancement
Determined by Guide. I am disinclined to give explicit XP. When I am Guide, I will instead give non-statistic awards (think gold-stars or badges) for various accomplishments. Any changes in character statistics (for my time as Guide) will be determined by character development within the story. If someone else wants to give out XP, go ahead.

Game Support
I'd like a repository of game summaries and character journal entries somewhere.

The old forums will be taken down to make way for the new Laughing Pan Productions' forums - this will occur on September 1st (that's tomorrow!). If there is anything you want saved for posterity on the old forums, please make sure you get over there today and copy it to your harddrive.

Step up and claim your prize.
So I'm literally ONE NAME away from finishing my part of Goblin Market.

I can't tell you what it's about...

but I need a Latin conjugation of any (preferably all) of the following terms and all my Latin dictionaries and sourcebooks are buried in the leaning and death-dealing towers of books in the library closet--the BOTTOM of the leaning and death-dealing piles, I should say. Here's what I need:

Puzzle of the heart
Stone(s) of the heart
Heart of stone

Preferred terms for Stone: Caementum/Caementi, Tesella/ae, and Gemma/ae.
Preferred term for Heart: they typical Cor/Cordis

I need them in their proper form (nominative genitive).

Whoever grants me this wish shall get a shout out in Goblin Markets, a personal email of thanks from me, and a small short story free of charge once I get back from Origins.

(X-posted like mad)

Current Mood: frustrated
